Eaton is a power management company with 2013 sales of $22.0 billion. Eaton provides energy-efficient solutions that help its customers effectively manage electrical, hydraulic and mechanical power more efficiently, safely and sustainably. Eaton has approximately 102,000 employees and sells products to customers in more than 175 countries.
Eaton co-ordinates activities within the project, ensuring technical and administrative leadership of the consortium and its various research and development activities. Eaton will also take care of specifying power distribution architectures and providing technical expertise related software, virtualization technologies and airflow management. Eaton is also responsible for distributing and ensuring use of the six Work Packages the project will initially create, which encompass system specification, local management and energy management systems, validation, demonstration and dissemination of findings.
Eaton hopes to benefit from the project through the creation of enhanced UPS product features, and the development with partners of an ecosystem of complementary products aiming at higher energy conservation and lower environmental footprint in data centers.
Additionally, Eaton hopes to leverage the scientific expertise of research partners for renewable integration and prediction of key data center parameters. Other goals include enhancing collaboration with top research organizations for scientific co-operation and student internships.
Eaton is involved in several EU projects including FP7 Poseidon and Clean Sky Archangel in the area of safe electrical systems. Other Eaton engineering groups across Europe participate in multiple national research projects related to smart grids and energy management and protection.
